King Street is at the heart of one of the biggest urban regeneration projects nationally, the Brisbane Showgrounds Redevelopment.
Developed by Lend Lease, it will ultimately comprise 340,000 m2 of new residential, commercial, and retail buildings.
25 King Street was designed by Bates Smart and completed in 2018.
It is a 14,965 m2 NLA office building and is currently (as at 2021), the tallest engineered-timber building in Australia.
Architecturally, the building is an extruded, glazed rectilinear volume that expresses its floorplate.
Its all-timber side core on the north enables an open and unencumbered floorplate for maximum workplace flexibility.
‘L’ shaped solar shades arrayed across the west façade reduce solar heat gain, which is essential in Brisbane’s harsh climate.
Engineered timber provides an environmentally friendly alternative to concrete and steel, with a lower carbon footprint that creates a connection with nature to promote a sense of well-being.
Aurecon were the structural engineers and are the building’s head commercial tenant.
