The owners of this Erskineville cottage bought and lived in the modest two-bedroom home for ten years, starting a family before being hit with a devastating diagnosis.
Erskineville is an inner-city suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia and is located six kilometres south-west of the Central Business District.
Rebuilding after their setback, the family wanted to move back in to their home to create new, happy memories.
Architect Amrish Maharaj considered the principles of the brief and developed a new take on the 3R’s – Renovate, Renew, and Restart.
Driven by a restricted budget, Amrish Maharaj worked closely with the City of Sydney Council and a builder to develop a strategy that minimised excessive structure and used economical building materials in a contemporary way.
