It isn’t often when an architect is given the opportunity to work so closely and collaboratively with a client.
The project interiors for the Lavender Bay project were designed Architecture Saville Isaacs in collaboration with Linda Morrice of Lavender Bay Interiors who was the client for the project.
An ongoing approach of Architecture Saville Isaacs is to seek to express each element and material honestly and to emphasise its tactile qualities.
Every junction is thoughtfully detailed to clearly define and express the different materials allowing the comprehension of the structures and construction.
The House presents a rectilinear off-form concrete frame from which ‘extrudes’ an exposed steel box framing the expansive glazing.
The steel plate surrounds to openings and balcony edges counterbalance the masonry masses, acting as ‘blinkers’ for privacy from the street and focusing views from within.
The house is situated on the solid base of the heritage stone street wall, relieved by the landscaped entry court.
Contemporary, modern interiors extrapolate the external materials of off-form concrete, steel plate, painted recycled brick.
Light, natural and artificial, sculpts the space accentuating the textural qualities of the materials.
Brass is used as a highlight, adding depth and contrast: handrails, shadow lines, door handles, light fittings – polished, brushed, knurled, and patinated.
A fully engaged understanding of the overall design concept is expressed from each structural element through to each junction and accentuated by each fitting and furnishing.
