This four-level apartment project, designed by Plus Architecture, comprises of a ground level of residential car parking and three levels of residential apartments, delivering a total of 72 individual apartments.
Chase Apartments are located in Forest Hill on a busy four lane highway with no street parking across from the Forest Hill Chase shopping centre carpark.
The site also features the Forest Hill Drain which runs through the site and partially makes up the northern boundary.
Responding to the fine grain of the surrounding residential buildings, the Plus Architecture design of Chase Apartments sought to break the continuous built form into a series of buildings creating a village-like aesthetic.
This approach was then reinforced through the use of variations in the widths, heights and solidity of the balconies, planting and materials which add visual interest to the development, creating a point of difference to existing residential design in the area.
The southern half of the development features peaked roof forms with highlight glazing to provide northern sun into the south facing apartments, whereas the northern half reinforces the attention to detail by framing the individual forms of the apartments.
Timber handrails on the balconies add a level of sophistication and tactility to the overall building and the use of translucent glass provides breaks in form.
Ecologically sustainable design measures include the inclusion of insulation and double-glazing throughout and a green wall located on the eastern boundary of the site.
Whilst the car park is completely hidden from the street, it is typically naturally ventilated and enclosed through the use of screens and screen planting.
