Designed by Lachlan Shepherd Architects, the Bimbadeen House is modernist, light-filled, compact home that is protected and shielded from street view, but feels completely open internally.
It complements the surrounding bush by nestling into the sloping site.
The simple, low-lying, protective external form contrasts its light-filled, open-planned interior.
Subdued, low-maintenance materials have been utilized so that the building will continue to age gracefully and settle in further with its bush context.
The major challenge the Lachlan Shepherd Architects team addressed was the restrictive building envelope on the wrong side of the allotment (close to neighbour).
This issue was addressed by adopting Courtyard typology to “frame” bush views, but de-emphasize the neighbouring dwelling and protect internal amenity.
The other issue that needed attention was the bushfire threat. Bushfire-appropriate materials were utilized to adhere to site requirements.
