The single fronted Victorian cottage was completely transformed from a dark and dis-functional residence to a light filled, highly detailed and functional home to suit the beautiful bayside location and lifestyle.
Modern and timeless, the Albert Park Residence in Melbourne was intimately designed to accommodate a young family and all their needs, but also maintain an honest and thoughtful design language.
Interior designers Kestie Lane Studio created a composed interior for this home. The design treads lightly while striking a balance between a new pared-back aesthetic that allows the existing features to shine.
Impressively showcasing innovative design aesthetics and bespoke finishes, the transformation of this freestanding residence sets a new benchmark in contemporary style.
The project was not without its challenges, including:
- the lack of storage
- small single bathroom and kitchen
- the long shotgun passage with no natural light or character
- the antiquated electrics, floors, walls, and wet areas
The motivating design concept was to create a light filled sanctuary with a pared back delicate aesthetic and to reveal the beauty of the existing features of the home.
The sophisticated palette of finishes and custom crafted joinery sets the design language. Warm finishes of grey stained oak timber joinery, limestone and timber floors, soft polished concrete walls punctuated with blackened steel reveals, arches and bespoke design elements.
Kestie Lane Studio’s collaboration with artisans and craftspeople is the core philosophy of the design practice, an approach that transformed their design into a unique and memorable home.
