Seeley Architects’ design of the Ironbark house evolved following an agreement that a number of poorly integrated additions to a 1970’s era house be removed and a new wing be added to the ‘stripped back’ remains.
This new wing was designed to accommodate the client’s growing, young family.
The concept for the new wing was multifaceted: drawing from the surrounding bush land as well as the character of the existing house.
The form of the addition references the roof pitch of the ’70’s house, albeit in a contemporary manner with two substantial cantilevers gesturing into the landscape.
The interior and exterior materials and finishes, reference the rugged beauty of the Ironbark trees with silver, grey – green foliage influencing the selections including linings, floor coverings, tiles and paint colours.
The deeply textured, rusty brown – black trunks of the Iron bark trees are reflected in the weathered steel that encase the walls and roof of the dynamic new wing.
