The Turner Building was designed to meet both Monash University’s core sustainable design principles and achieve a 5 star as-built Green Star rating.
Both the client and JCB Architects wanted green star initiatives that targeted value adds to residents and weren’t simply treated as a points scoring exercise.
Solar control and natural ventilation were core to the planning strategies for the building, its form, and orientation.
Key ground floor spaces were planned to maximise exposure to daylight penetration and ensure cross flow ventilation.
Accommodation on upper levels benefits from natural ventilation principles to all spaces.
The buildings sustainable agenda is worn on its sleeve literally – in the main foyer signage displays core design elements that are unseen – rain water harvesting, recycling, transport initiatives, and energy use.
The sustainable agenda for the building was to pursue opportunities that delivered sustainable outcomes – the result is quality living environments for residents.
