Pleysier Perkins Architects designed a second storey addition to the rear of an Edwardian home in Malvern East, Melbourne.
The design aimed to provide the family of four with a private retreat upstairs, liberating the ground level for guests and entertaining.
Whilst this new addition adopts clean contemporary lines with large glass sliding doors leading out to the pool and outdoor BBQ area, the traditional features in the period home have been carefully restored, providing a clear distinction between the old and new.
The transition is marked by a long linear skylight over the stair that separates the new standing seam wall from the existing terracotta tiled roof and introduces natural light into the heart of the home.
A set of steel-framed glass doors formalize the entry into the main living space and tie together steel accents featured throughout the interior.
Timber soffits, timber battened walls, and a mobile screen work to soften the palette and provide privacy and sun protection at the same time.
