For this playful and colourful Asian inspired restaurant and bar at the new Riley Hotel in Cairns, Far North Queensland, restaurant design consultancy CTRL Space wanted to create a clean and beautiful design bolstered by strong interior detail, complimenting the high-quality food offering and maintaining the standard of a five-star resort.
The CTRL Space brief was to create a contemporary and refreshing environment for the guests of the Riley Hotel. The interior finishes and aesthetic needed to reflect the subtropical context of the Riley Hotel, but also inject elements of contemporary Asian aesthetic referencing Japanese forms, materials, and architecture.
The large interior environment included outdoor from deck dining, a large open plan interior environment, a cocktail lounge, two private dining spaces, a meat and wine display, and a gallery kitchen.
Key Products Used
Custom acoustic panels were designed and made of NAV veneer and rattan. CTRL Space included a custom ribbed concrete element to the bar front.
Tretford carpet was used in the cocktail lounge and Bolon floor panels were used in the open restaurant dining space.
Locally sourced marble from the northern Queensland quarry Chillagoer was used for the front facade for the cocktail bar.
Thonet bentwood armchairs were used throughout the space, as well as Herman Miller feature lighting.
