Sea Deck

Sea Deck

Sea Deck is a family home located on a view-abundant, beachside site on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

The design captures ocean views from each of its three levels it terraces down the slope.

A robust and natural palette of materials features timber cladding, in-situ concrete, and timber detailing throughout to create a relaxed yet sophisticated home.

Tim Ditchfield Architects’design brief was to create a sophisticated yet relaxed family home that capitalizes on the site’s amazing setting.

With a steeply sloping site and raking height limits, the floor plan is divided into three levels stepping down the site.

Each level serves a specific function.

The upper level is the master suite/parents retreat.

The middle level is dedicated to the family’s daily living.

And the lower level serving as the children’s quarters and secondary living.

The design philosophy follows a modern aesthetic, but with the extensive use of timber to soften and warm the spaces.

Generous eaves and balcony spaces respond to the environmental factors of the site as well as appeasing town planning requirements.

High-level ribbons of glazing give the appearance of floating roofs.

A thoughtful approach to landscaping helps ground the proposal to its context with the extensive use of native species in the many terraces.

An important consideration on this site was the strong prevailing breezes from the southeast.

The design seeks to create an opportunity to shelter from these breezes in the main living spaces which is crucial to the liveability of the house in this location.

The client was very involved throughout the project and adjustments to an evolving brief were considered inevitable and welcomed.

The result is a highly customized bespoke house that was crafted to match the client brief exactly.

Given the constraints of the site, the brief matches the clients’ expectations very closely, including aesthetics as well as function.
