Dover Townhouses

Dover Townhouses

Located in a heritage zone in inner-city Melbourne; a pair of brothers built a pair of contemporary townhouses so their young families could grow up side-by-side.

While being strikingly contemporary; the design by DOOD Studio lends its form and rhythm to the existing heritage streetscape.

The dwellings use a unique timber batten cladding that floats over the facade, doors, and roof to create a simple gable form that mimics that of its neighbours.

The site is located in a heritage zone, so the design for the new build was to be sympathetic to the area and tie in the streetscape and character.

The client also wanted a light, bright, and warm home with enough space to work from home.

The design had to be sympathetic to the surrounding area whilst still appeasing the client’s need for a contemporary design.

Key Products Used

The main facade features a clip-on timber batten system that covers the entire facade, including doors, windows and roof. This was an important design decision to create a monolithic look.

Colorbond Inverted seam cladding was used for the first floor to shadow the facade seen on the ground floor.
