This project, designed by Kate Cork, director at Corke Studio, was an interior renovation and external extension to a federation terrace home in East Melbourne, Australia.
The brief called for the retention of the existing beauty of the federation home, but to lighten and brighten the space.
So the Corke design team focused on the threshold between the old and new and considered how it might feel moving through this threshold.
The material palette they selected was warm, friendly, and clean.
That made the narrow extension feel larger and brighter.
The void punched in at the kitchen zone floods the space with light.

Corke Studio
Corke Studios’ focus is on considered space, designing spaces conducive to ‘live, work and play’ within, both as individual elements and as a cluster of elements.
The firm believes ultimate luxury is within the framework – strong bones, proportions, access to sunlight throughout the day, and adaptability within the usage of space provides lasting pleasure to occupants.
