Designed by HONED Architecture + Design, this modernist residence in Launceston, Tasmania represents an architect’s journey of exploration, study, and experimentation for his own family residence.
It is a modernist approach to a traditional brick veneer residence and accommodates the day-to-day needs of a young family.
The design delivered an economical, affordable, and low-maintenance solution.
The home provides refuge for the family outside of business hours, yet it accommodates a sole practitioner’s office during the day where clients come to meet in conversation.
Positioned on a highly exposed site to traffic in amongst traditional urban sprawl, the building fronts the boundaries with blade walls providing screening to the private zones of the home.
Through the playful interaction of the artistically laid blockwork, the result is brutal yet soft.
