Ms. Kim

After being crowned the runner of My Kitchen Rules 2018, Kim dreamed of owning a restaurant.

So she commissioned ElvinTan Design to create an interior design for her restaurant concept that was inspired by her coastal hometown of Nha Trang in Vietnam.

The Ms. Kim design captures the essence of a coastal village with a fresh palette perfect for the seaside suburb of Williamstown in Melbourne, Australia.

The interior detail reflects the nostalgic atmosphere of historic Vietnam but with a modern twist that’s infused with Melbourne’s restaurant culture.

The heritage significance of the existing site guided the ElvinTan Design team to create something new while honouring its glory days.

ElvinTan Design retained and featured the original bluestone floor and fireplace into the overall design.

The high ceiling heights presented an opportunity to hang 200 hand-made Silk lanterns from Vietnam that celebrate the craftsmanship of Vietnam.

ElvinTan Design created an open layout that works with the long and narrow space. It’s a versatile layout that can evolve over time based on the client’s emerging business needs.

Ms. Kim is moulded as an evocative space with a touch of Vietnam.

The ElvinTan Design team’s vision was to encapsulate the brand through an interior that is unique and different, yet remain authentic and avoid wholesale and gratuitous cultural appropriation.
