Located south of Sydney on the foreshore of Kyle Bay, the River House project faced duel challenges of a steeply sloping site and south-facing aspects that overlook the Georges River.
Designed by Sydney-based KA Design Studio, the house features minimal raw materials encompassing a sleek and staggered form.
Each level slightly overhangs the next, exaggerating the site’s steep slope as it falls away from underneath the heavily expressed concrete slabs.
This stepping allows northern light to permeate down into all areas of the house, without obstructing river views.
The KA Design Studio team paralleled hard stones and concrete with light timber screens and full-height glass sections.
That created a feeling of lightness as the structure pushes itself out from the sloping terrain.
With a large four-car garage, open living plan, terrace, and cantilevered pool, this home has been designed to meet contemporary lifestyle needs.
An exciting feature of the house is the boat shed that’s designed to accommodate a large 40-foot yacht with direct access back up to the house.
The boat shed utilizes the same material and formal quality as the house, creating a seamless transition across the whole site.
