St Mary’s Catholic Church is a heritage-listed Roman Catholic church in the suburb of South Brisbane.
It was designed by Simkin & Ibler with Italian Romanesque and Renaissance influences and built from 1892 to 1929.
The Church was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 3 December 2004.
The original church building was first opened for service in the mid 1860s.
But as Brisbane’s population grew, the building needed to be expanded.
The new church was completed in 1893 and was also used as a school.
The sanctuary, vestry, and sacristy were later designed by Cavanagh and Cavanagh Architects and completed in 1929.
The building is rendered with reinforced concrete and brick and features a large rose window above the main entrance.
The interior is composed of terrazzo floors, marble lined walls, a domed plaster ceiling, and stained-glass windows.
